"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, or with the breadth of His hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who has understood the mind of the LORD, or instructed Him as His counselor? Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten Him, and who taught Him the right way? Who was it that taught Him knowledge or showed Him the path of understanding?" - Isa. 40:12-14.
Why do we have such a hard time finding our purpose in life, when it's right in front of our very eyes? We run from 'thing' to 'thing' to no avail. We desperately try to keep our minds busy because we so easily ignore our one purpose in life- to glorify God. That's it. That's why you and I exist. Surprised? Offended? I often am. It is because I am often self-centered more than God-centered.
In his book "It's Not About Me," Max Lucado illustrates a simple notion: The moon's purpose is to reflect the sun. Get your elementary textbooks out! You never hear the moon complain about her role, her position, or her purpose. She has no light of her own except what the sun reflects, and as a result she beams that borrowed light onto a dark earth. Similarly, our purpose is to be "Son-reflectors." We are loved, cherished, and so special to God, but He doesn't exist to please us or we would be pleased all the time. Rather, we exist to please HIM. At this point, this is where non-Christians say "fugheddaboudit," and where professing Christ-followers say, "I'll just stay over here in my comfortable little box, or pew, thank you very much."
Let me get the megaphone out: God is God and we are not. Everything and everyone exists to glorify Jesus Christ because He is God. He is God because THAT'S WHAT IT MEANS TO BE GOD! So, join me in praising the one true God for who HE IS. Let's serve Him because of who HE IS. Let's honor Him in all we do because that's exactly what we were created for. Now we are beginning to find our true purpose! More of You Lord is all I need, just you, only YOU.
