A DARK HOUSE

2 Cor. 3:16-18- "But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, then the veil is taken away. Now, the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, He gives freedom. And all of us have had that veil removed so that we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him and reflect His glory even more."

Picture this with me- you've just moved into a beautiful new home. As the movers bring your belongings inside you can picture where each piece will go. The electrician comes in and connects the power, the plumber comes in and turns on the water; the cable company comes in and sets up 5,000 channels which you'll never watch. Finally, a few hours later, everything's inside. The movers and technicians have all left. You decide to take a load off and rest. Dusk is quickly approaching. Rather than get up to turn on a few lights you just sit there and do nothing as darkness creeps in through the front windows. Shortly after, full darkness sets in. You get up and start tripping over boxes and your own 2 feet because you can't see. Suddenly you remember something! The electrician already came and turned the power on! The power is indeed on, you just haven't been using it. You find a few light switches and behold- light!

Quite an odd illustration isn't it? Not many of us could actually picture ourselves doing the same in a situation like this. It seems absurd. But, as Christians, isn't this exactly what we do with the Holy Spirit?

Upon salvation, the Holy Spirit makes His home inside us. Think about that, the actual Spirit of the living God lives in you and me if we know Christ as Savior! What grace. What mercy. What a loving God, that He would come to actually live in us! Especially because Jesus took our sin upon Himself and on our behalf paid it all at calvary. Not only does He save us He desires to transform us. The electricity is hooked up, it's on, it's available. However, we Christ-followers hardly use it, and to make matters worse, we resist transformation.

God desires to transform our hearts to look just like Jesus'. Again, what an incredible offer of grace from our God. However, we choose to sit in the dark and fumble around. We continue in our mess rather than surrender to Him and let Him change us to be more like Him! Why surrender? Because we need to get out of the way so the Master can completely repaint the canvas of our heart and make us into His masterpiece. The electricity has already been installed. Time to turn on the lights.
